The mission of Fairwinds Christian School is to provide students with a foundation of knowledge built upon a biblical worldview, encourage them to cultivate a heart for God and grow in wisdom and faith, and to live a life of integrity and service to others for the glory of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Fairwinds Christian School was founded in 1972 by Dr. E.L. Britton, the founding Pastor of Fairwinds Baptist Church . As the public school system made the decision to remove prayer and the Bible from the classroom, Dr. Britton understood the long term effects of a godless education. He knew that in order for families to have a Biblical worldview, they needed an education that included God and, in fact, was based on Godly principles, so God called dedicated and capable teachers from the Church who were of like mind. They stepped up to meet the challenge, and God richly blessed their efforts. The school started with Kindergarten through 7th grade and continued to grow into what it is today - a daycare with children from 6 weeks to 3 years of age and the school with grades Pre-K3 through 12th grade.
Fairwinds Christian School, owned and operated by Fairwinds Baptist Church, exists to serve families that are interested in a Christian education. Since 1972, Fairwinds Christian School has served a diverse student population from New Castle County and surrounding areas. Located in Bear, Delaware, the school is part of Fairwinds Baptist Church’s scenic fifteen-acre campus which includes a fenced playground, picnic area, and both softball fields and a soccer field.
Philosophy
The concepts of our philosophy of education are derived from the Bible and include the following:
Authority
The Bible, the divinely inspired Word of God, is our authority for faith and conduct. Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Word of God, is our theme and subject.
Creation
All things in heaven and in earth, visible and invisible, were created by the sovereign God and revealed in the Holy Bible. God created man in His own image, as a spiritual, mental and physical being.
The Fall
Man by his disobedience to the divine command marred the image of God beyond his own ability to repair it.
Man
Through the creative act of God all men are brothers regardless of race, color, and national origin. Man, though a spiritual, mental and physical being, is essentially one; all efforts in his behalf must acknowledge this basic unity and the interaction of every attribute.
Redemption
A personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Word, justifies a man before God and begins that restoration of the image of God that is completed by Him in heaven.
Education
The desire for truth, finding truth, and learning truth glorifies God. All truth is God's truth; and as we strive to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Jesus Christ, with the humility of finite man, the larger understandings that are developed establish the compatibility of Biblical revelation with that of all of other areas of knowledge. Every Christian is to glorify God in and through the vocation to which God has called him. God commands respect for and obedience to human authorities. Until our Lord returns in power and glory, it is the responsibility of His disciples to occupy every vocational and cultural area, even as social and political institutions continue to deteriorate. The Christian response to all forms of artistic endeavor must also be to the glory of God. The human body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and is to be cared for and used to His glory. All believers are united by their commitment to Christ as Savior. Parents are responsible to God for the education of their children, and that the Christian school is obligated to support and complement the Christian training in the godly home.
Doctrinal Statement
Core Values
Faith
We aspire to help students come to a saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ and to develop a faith in Him that leads them to relentlessly live for Him.
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:16
Integrity
We believe that integrity is the guiding principle of the Christian life. Students are challenged to value honesty and truth, and to believe that their actions are to be consistent with their words.
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8
Service
We believe that we are called to emulate Christ by serving others. Students are encouraged to recognize the needs of others and seek ways to help them.
“Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.” Proverbs 3:27
Faculty
All faculty members are born-again believers and most are members of Fairwinds Baptist Church. They are carefully selected based on education, experience, ability, and integrity. The teachers at Fairwinds Christian School are committed to Christian education, are devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ, and have a sincere love for children.
Curriculum
Fairwinds Christian School is a traditional school with grades PK3 to 12th grade. All of the subjects are teacher instructed and guided. Our school provides a college preparatory curriculum using primarily A Beka and Bob Jones text materials.
